July 26th is celebrated as "Kargil Vijay Diwas" every year to mark the successful mission accomplishment "Operation Vijay". Approximately 527 Indian army soldiers, jawans, officers were killed during the battle. Each and everyone is a hero for us. The heroes sacrificed their lives so that we the people of India can sleep peacefully. On this 21st anniversary of our victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war, we are remembering the 7 army heroes of "Operation Vijay" in this article.

1. Captain Vikram Batra ( Param Vir Chakra, Posthumous) (13 JAK Rifles)
He waw one of the bravest heroes of mother India. While trying to rescue an injured soldier he was martyred on July 26, 1999 . The peak where he died Point 4875, is now called ‘Batra Top’. He was awarded with the Param Veer Chakra, the highest military honor.
Vikram Batra's famous quote "Either I will come back after hoisting the tricolor (Indian flag), or I will come back wrapped in it, but I will be back for sure.”

2. Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey (Param Vir Chakra, Posthumous) (1/11 Gorkha Rifles)
Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey of led the attacks during ‘Operation Vijay’ and forced back the intruders from the Batalik sector on June 11, 1999. He was a great leader. He and his team was succeeded to capture of Jaubar Top and Khalubar on early hours of July 3, 1999. Pandey was honoured with the Param Vir Chakra.
During the Service Selection Board (SSB) interview, he was questioned why he wanted to join the Army? He answered, "I want to win the Param Vir Chakra".

3. Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav (Param Vir Chakra) (18 Grenadiers)
Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was the part of Ghatak platoon.He was assigned the task to capture three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill. Clearly it was a daunting task to lead the assault and climbing the cliff face. He was awarded the highest military honour in India, Param Vir Chakra, for his 4 July 1999 action during the Kargil War.
Yogendra Singh Yadav once said In an interview with DD National, "A soldier is like a selfless lover. With this unconditional love, comes determination. And for this love for his nation, his regiment, and his fellow soldiers, a soldier doesn't think twice before risking his life."

4. Rifleman Sanjay Kumar (Param Vir Chakra) (13 JAK Rif)
Sanjay Kumar was the leading scout of the team. He was shot in the chest and forearm yet retaliate the attack of the enemy despite bleeding profusely. The army got charged up by looking at his breavery and the rest of the platoon attacked the enemy bunkers and captured the Area flat top. He was awarded with Param Vir Chakra.

5. Lt. Keishing Clifford Nongrum (Maha Vir Chakra, Posthumous) (12 JAK LI)
He was the one of the best combat action heroes in our Army. Lieutenant Keishing Clifford Nongrum of the 12th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, attained martyrdom while capturing Point 4812 during the Kargil War. He was honoured with Maha Vir Chakra.

6. Naik Digendra Kumar (Maha Vir Chakra) (2 RAJ RIF)
The Indian Rambo of the Kargil war Naik Digendra Kumar. He was hit by a bullet in his left arm. With his injury, he continued firing with one hand and brought down effective and accurate Light Machine Gunfire on the enemy. Due to this, his platoon advanced towards the objective and was able to capture the enemy zone.

7. Major Rajesh Singh Adhikari (Maha Vir Chakra, Posthumous) (18 Grenadiers)
He was fired from two mutually supporting enemy positions, with Universal machine Guns. He immediately shoot the Rocket Launcher to engage the enemy position and without waiting, went into the position and killed two enemy intruders in close combat.Rakesh was awarded the gallantry honour, Maha Vir Chakra for his bravey in warfare.

These are some of the Kargil heroes who fought the battle with bravery and courage and made India proud. They had fought for us and we people of India will never forget them.
